A leading player in workwear and PPE supply, SMI Group needed a space that could keep pace with their rapid growth – while offering their team an inspiring, functional, and flexible workplace. They turned to AW Spaces to refurbish their existing office, bringing teams from multiple floors onto one consolidated floorplate – transforming a dated office into a dynamic headquarters that would support hybrid working, enable collaboration across departments, and create a lasting impression for both employees and visiting clients.

We were tasked with reimagining the space to suit the evolving needs of the business. A key focus of the brief was to strike the right balance between open-plan working and areas for focused, private conversations and meetings. It was essential that the design offered flexibility, as well as a visual expression of SMI’s global outlook and entrepreneurial culture. Our response included a refreshed front-of-house area, a suite of Crittall style glazed meeting rooms, and an open-plan layout designed around natural light and team dynamics. Breakout areas and a communal kitchen offer space for informal connection and downtime, while acoustic treatments and soft furnishings help maintain comfort and focus throughout the day.
The material palette features a clean, contemporary mix of soft colours, timber textures, and bold brand accents – reflecting SMI’s professional yet approachable identity. The space is light, open, and energising – designed not just for today’s needs, but with flexibility for the future. Through thoughtful planning, tailored detailing, and a collaborative approach, we’ve delivered a workplace that not only meets the practical requirements of a busy international company but also offers a vibrant setting where people can connect, create, and grow.
