Looking Ahead: 6 Office Design Trends for 2023

As we edge closer to the end of 2022, we’re looking at what will shape design & build in 2023. While it's always difficult to predict the future with certainty, there are a few key trends that seem likely to have a big impact on the way we design and build commercial spaces.

Overall, we expect to see a focus on sustainability, adaptability, collaboration, and technology in 2023. As businesses continue to adapt to the changing needs of their employees and customers, we can expect to see a range of innovative and exciting designs that meet these needs and help create inspiring and productive work environments

Flexibility and adaptability

With many businesses now allowing employees to work remotely or on flexible schedules, it's important for office spaces to be able to adapt to changing needs. This may involve the use of modular furniture and partition walls that can be easily moved or reconfigured to create different types of work environments.

Collaboration and community

In addition to traditional conference rooms, we may see more coworking spaces and collaborative areas designed to encourage teamwork and idea-sharing. This could include areas for socializing and networking, as well as more traditional work spaces.

Technology

From smart lighting systems and touchless doors to virtual reality training rooms and automated coffee machines, businesses will need to incorporate technology in order to stay competitive.

Biophilic design

This approach to design seeks to incorporate natural elements and materials into the built environment in order to create spaces that are both functional and calming. Expect to see more commercial spaces featuring living walls, natural light, and natural materials like wood and stone as a way to create a more welcoming and calming atmosphere. Sustainability

Expect to see more spaces designed with energy efficiency in mind, as well as the use of sustainable materials and construction methods. This could include the use of reclaimed or recycled materials, as well as the incorporation of green spaces and rainwater harvesting systems.

Health and wellbeing

This could include the use of natural light and ventilation, as well as the inclusion of amenities like fitness centers and meditation rooms. The WELL building standard is a benchmarking system that focuses on the impact of buildings on our wellness. Find out more here.

Overall, it seems that the trends in 2023 will be focused on creating functional, flexible, and sustainable spaces that promote health and well-being. As the world continues to adapt to the challenges posed by COVID-19, it will be interesting to see how these trends evolve and shape the way we design and build commercial spaces in the future.
